Activities Phase 1 - Facilities and Safety

Train staff to recognize symptoms of TB, HIV and, if applicable, other laboratory associated infections and facilitate access to diagnostic and medical services for staff members that have potentially become infected during work

Make an action plan to upgrade the facilities and safety of the laboratory to get in compliance with the basic safety requirements for TB laboratories

Determine which biosafety level(s) the facilities need to comply with

Write and implement an SOP for Waste Segregation and Disposal

Write a Biosafety Manual and make sure it is read and signed by all staff

Arrange standardized regular cleaning of the laboratory

Purchase spill kits and write and implement an SOP on Dealing with Spills

Purchase first aid kits and train a selection of personnel members to become first aid providers
